Beechwood Dental Care, Woodlesford

This term the Artclub has been commissioned to make some artwork to be displayed in the entrance hallway at Beechwood Dental Care in Woodlesford.

It is Reception's Artclub and we were delighted to accept this exciting challenge from Mr and Mrs Reid to create some lovely big paintings to brighten up this fabulous plain long wall.  

We will be producing three collaborative paintings all inspired by children's stories about losing teeth.

"Bear's Loose Tooth", "Tooth Fairy" and "Titus's Troublesome Tooth" are the books which are our inspiration for the artwork.

We have already painted all the parts for our first painting "Titus's Troublesome Tooth", in which Titus the goat gets a poorly tooth and all his farmyard friends suggest some interesting, but rather peculiar ways to help him get his tooth out!

 Next week we will enjoy reading "Tooth Fairy" and drawing our favourite part of the story.

Pom Pom Day - Monday 30th April

The day started with an assembly given by Sarah Barton, Educational Officer from Armley Mills / Leeds Industrial Museum.  She talked to the children about the Museum, where wool comes from  and it's manufacture.  She explained that the Industrial Museum wanted to show how important British wool is and that they are over the year going to fill their museum full of sheep.  These are not real sheep, but sheep made from pom poms!

We then went back to our classes where we all set out to make a pom - pom each. 

The whole school worked on this project at the same time from Nursery to Year 6.  We are fortunate at Robin Hood to have had enough wool for all pupils to take part.  This was kindly donated by the school community and Edward Hill & Co, a textile mill who produces yarns and wool, based in Bradford.

As it was a sunny afternoon, some enthusiastic Reception children took advantage of the warm sunshine and wound their pom-poms in the sun.





After school the hall doors were opened for our community afternoon where  children came with their families and carers to make even more pom - poms.  It was a lovely afternoon!

Refreshments were served as it's very thirsty work and the Rothwell Record came down to see what was going on.

Many people took wool away to make even more pom-poms at home and I've already started having them back in.  Thankyou Amber and Jacob.



Friendly Faces were winding pom - poms out in the late afternoon sun. 

It was a truly great day.  We finished up with 237 completed pom - poms and if you add to that at least another 100 at least that need to be finished, I think you will agree we will have probably made the most pom - poms out of all the groups taking part in the exhibition.

Pom Pom Day - Monday 30th April

On Monday 30th April (this coming Monday), there will be a community afternoon for which the school hall will be open to all children, parents / carers and grandparents, uncles and aunties to help make as many pom-poms as we can.

The event will be led by Sarah Barton, Educational Officer for the Leeds Industrial Museum, who will be helping us create enough pom-poms to make our very own life-sized sheep!  The Robin Hood Primary School sheep will be part of an exhibition celebrating British wool and will feature in the Museum over the coming year. 

Sarah will be holding an Assembly first thing in the morning for children.  We will be making our first pom-pom during the day.  Please help us to make the most pom-poms... and to make the biggest pom-pom sheep we can. 

The school doors will open at 3pm so please do try to come along with your child after you have collected them at their normal finishing time.  Refreshments are available.

As you can see we have had some busy, busy people already making pom-poms!  Can I say a huge thankyou to Harry's Grandma (Harry in Year 1) who has been so generous in her donation of wool and pom-poms she has made.  Also thankyou to Eleni, Amber, Harry, Lyla, Jack B, Jack and Ross who have been busy making too.  If I have not mentioned you and you have given me a pom-pom, then please come and tell me!

Thankyou to all of you who have donated wool for this event and to Edward Hill & Co, textile manufacturers and yarn suppliers at Hollings Mill, Bradford who have been incredibly generous in their donation of wool to this event.  I look forward to sending them photos of the day and of the completed Robin Hood Primary School Sheep.

Artforms - The West Park Centre

ArtForms is the music and arts team within Children's Services at Leeds
City Council. It is based at the West Park Centre, on Spen Lane (near
Headingley), Leeds.

On a visit to Artforms, Mrs. Dale thought some of our artwork would
brighten up their walls!

At last we have been able to exhibit the three Reception Artclub 2011
paintings together!

This wall is six and a half metres long and is one of the meeting rooms up
there. The books “Why is the Sky Blue?” “Rumble in the Jungle”, and
“A-Z of Dinosaurs" were the visual inspiration behind the paintings.
Each pupil drew a picture about the story and the best bits from all the
drawings were used to design the finished pieces.
The masks were made by pupils in the Reception class as part of the Jungle topic.

In one of the other meeting rooms we have displayed “Animals on Ice”
This painting was created by the Key Stage 1 Artclub 2011. It is an imaginary
world of animals that live on ice – a combination of the North and South
Pole.

The children painted the background with brushes and sponges and added

details by sticking fabrics, papers and sequins.

At the time this was the largest painting the Artclub had attempted and

this is the first time it has been on display. We hope you enjoy it!

As soon as you enter the building you see the display of “The Very Hungry

Caterpillar made by KS1 to celebrate Harvest Festival which took place at

Robin Hood Primary School.

Approximately 2000 people will pass this display a week!

Key Stage two Artclub visit to the Children's Centre, Lofthouse

Well today was the last artclub for Key Stage 2. Hasn't time flown!

We finished off our posters for the summer drama production "The Pirates of the Curry Bean".

Watch out for these around school nearer the show date. We painted our ship's wheel and added more to the ship's sail. Then..........

....we headed off to the Children's Centre in Lofthouse with our Mums, Dads, carers, brothers and sisters to see our Easter display we created last half term.

"It has been admired by lots of people especially the babies" said the Children's Centre manager, Sara Jackson. She thanked us all for our fabulous achievement.

.........and finally, a huge thankyou to all the artclub members this term who have been so enthusiastic turning up each week asking "What are we doing this week, then?"

Easter Display

The collaborative display by the Key Stage 2 Artclub about Easter and

new life is now up and ready to view in the mall.

It is in the 3/4 area next to the external 3/4 doors and locker area.

This is the second montage of work to be displayed on this theme.

The other is on display at the Children's Centre, Lofthouse.

Their staff asked the Artclub to design and make them a really cool

Easter display because they have lots of visitors.

We liked the idea so much that we created enough artwork to make a

display in our mall, so we too, could think about and celebrate Easter.

Our first Pom Pom has arrived!

Thankyou so much Harry in Year 1 for bringing in the very first pom pom!

I know this will be the first of many made, but Harry made this out of school with his grandma and I hope they enjoyed making it.

If anybody would like to start making at home, they need to be 6cm in diameter

(which Harry's is).

If you need some wool, I can provide you with a pom pom ready to go.

This wool has come from the generous donations made by people within our school community. If I have not personally thanked you, then can I take this opportunity to say a huge thankyou!

Easter Display at the Children's Centre, Lofthouse

The fabulous work produced by our Key Stage 2 Artclub on the theme of new life and springtime has been put up in an Easter display at the Children's Centre, Lofthouse.

The majority of the art has been collaborative and backgrounds have been produced by one team of people and trees in blossom by another team, whilst sheep, chicks and eggs have been made by everybody.

If you cannot see your actual piece of artwork it may well be displayed in school in a second Easter montage of paintings and 2d relief art. This will be up soon. I will post it on the blog so you can come in to see it.

Art on display at Rothwell Library

Rothwell Library is hosting an exhibition of art from pupils at Robin Hood.

The art has been inspired by Spanish painters.

Work shown is mosaics from Key Stage 1, Spanish towns which are
cumulative pieces by lower key stage 2 and beautiful paintings based on the

works of Miquel Barcelo by Upper key stage 2.

Foundation Stage are exhibiting work based on the books, Elmer.

Please come down to view our exhibition and see our fantastic children’s
art in our fabulous community library.

It is open Mon-Fri 9-7pm, Sat 10-4pm and Sun 12-4pm.

The exhibition runs until Tuesday 27th March.

Community Afternoon on Monday 30th April from 3pm onwards

On Monday 30th April we will be hosting a community afternoon where

the school hall will be open to all children, parents/carers and grandparents,
uncles and aunties to help make as many pom poms as we can!

The event will happen straight after school where Sarah Barton, Educational

Officer for the Leeds Industrial Museum, will be helping staff and children

create enough pom poms to make our very own life-sized sheep!

The Robin Hood Primary School sheep will be part of an exhibition

celebrating British wool to feature in the Museum over the coming year.

So if you have any wool to donate, (see the box in the picture - it is in the mall) or buns we may sell, or can just turn up to take part it will help make this a really fun community event.
