Children’s Centre, Lofthouse

Today, I put up a display of painting and collage made by our Nursery children made during our “Animals” topic.  It is inspired by the song “Old MacDonald had a Farm and features the animals in the farmyard.  Our Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday morning children made the landscape and foreground and our Wednesday afternoon/Thursday/Friday children made the animals.  It is on display in the main corridor, next to the Reception desk at the Children’s Centre in Lofthouse where it will be seen by many of its’ visitors.

Nursery Portraits displayed at Children's Centre, Lofthouse

There are a selection of paintings by the children of Robin Hood Primary School Nursery on display at the Children's Centre in Lofthouse.

They were created as part of the "All about me" topic when they first arrived with us in September. The children were encouraged to look in small mirrors and choose colours that matched their hair, eyes, skin and lips.

There was a lot of talking about how many eyes we had, how long our hair was and the shape of our faces.

The portraits had been exhibited in our Nursery and now they are on display in our community.

New art work exhibited at the Children's Centre

The Children's Centre in Lofthouse have a new display of art work up by Robin Hood Pupils.
It has been created by our Key Stage 1 pupils and is art made during the Rainforest topic.

It is featured in the main mall at the Children's Centre and will be seen by lots of people who visit there.

In September Key Stage 1 Artclub will have the exciting opportunity to work on a real life art installation at the Children's Centre.  This is a project to design and create sculptures based on butterflies and other flying insects for the Community Room there.

We will be drawing, painting, printmaking and creating three dimensional wire structures to suspend from the ceiling.

This room opens out on to the Community Room in which our "Under the Sea" animals are displayed.

If you are in Key Stage 1 and want to be in the Art Club to take part in this fabulous project then complete the "Clubs" letter which you will receive when we start back to school in September.

Key Stage two Artclub visit to the Children's Centre, Lofthouse

Well today was the last artclub for Key Stage 2. Hasn't time flown!
We finished off our posters for the summer drama production "The Pirates of the Curry Bean".
Watch out for these around school nearer the show date. We painted our ship's wheel and added more to the ship's sail. Then..........
....we headed off to the Children's Centre in Lofthouse with our Mums, Dads, carers, brothers and sisters to see our Easter display we created last half term.
"It has been admired by lots of people especially the babies" said the Children's Centre manager, Sara Jackson. She thanked us all for our fabulous achievement.
Mrs. Mistry and myself, Mrs. Chin would like to thank all of you for coming to see the display which will be up until Easter......
.........and finally, a huge thankyou to all the artclub members this term who have been so enthusiastic turning up each week asking "What are we doing this week, then?"

Easter Display at the Children's Centre, Lofthouse

The fabulous work produced by our Key Stage 2 Artclub on the theme of new life and springtime has been put up in an Easter display at the Children's Centre, Lofthouse.
The majority of the art has been collaborative and backgrounds have been produced by one team of people and trees in blossom by another team, whilst sheep, chicks and eggs have been made by everybody.
If you cannot see your actual piece of artwork it may well be displayed in school in a second Easter montage of paintings and 2d relief art. This will be up soon. I will post it on the blog so you can come in to see it.

Artclub visit to Children's Centre

On Friday 13th January the Artclub who had made the "Under the Sea" animals were invited to a private viewing of their work at the Children's Centre.
The community room was filled with the artclub and their families and friends. Stephen Ward photographed the event for the Rothwell Record to celebrate this wonderful community event.

"Staff, parents and children of Lofthouse Children's Centre would like
to offer a huge thank you to the children from Robin Hood Primary
School. They have worked very hard to provide us with an "Under the Sea"
display which has made a real difference to our community space. We are
honoured to have such talented children and staff at school who have spent
time organising this project. To see children's art work being displayed in
the community for others to enjoy is fantastic".
- Sara Jackson, Manager of the Children's Centre.

"Under the Sea" at the Children's Centre

Way back in the summer term of 2011, Sara Jackson, the manager of the Children's Centre spoke with Mrs. Dale, Mrs. Mistry and myself, Mrs. Chin about the children of Robin Hood Primary School creating some fabulous models that would hang over the sand and water area in the commutiy room, so the babies could look at them.

During our Artclub sessions the Key Stage 1 children have designed , built and decorated some amazing sea creatures that are now hanging in situ in the community room.

We worked to specific requirements just as an artist would in a real life commission. The team at the Children's Centre said the models would need to be bright, but not too big (to block light from the window) and were to be of objects that the babies would recognise. Since there was a theme already of sand and water in the room we all agreed "Under the Sea" would be great!

Take a look at the photostory to see what we did.....

New artwork at the Children's Centre, Lofthouse

"The Savannah" is the latest piece of artwork to be exhibited at the Children's Centre, Lofthouse.

It is another amazing example in the series of canvasses designed and made by our Key Stage 1 children. The children looked at the habitats in the story of "The Creation", which are Land, Sky, Sea and Forest and then created their own two dimensional worlds.

Our Artwork at the Children's Centre, Lofthouse

At the Children's Centre, Lofthouse, Robin Hood Primary School have a permanent exhibition space which showcases the work of our pupils to our community.
The first work of art is called "The Sea" and was created by our Key Stage 1 children during last term.

The children looked at the different habitats in the story of “The Creation”:- Land, Sea, Sky and Forest. These they interpreted and have represented each habitat using colour and movement.

Once the backgrounds were finished, the pupils made detailed drawings of the animals to go in each habitat.

During this project the children engaged with lots of different equipment such as paints, chalk, fabrics, beads and sequins to explore the different textures and techniques.
